We are not currently taking submissions. Residents of Whatcom County are invited to submit a poem to be displayed in the future Poem Booth at the downtown Bellingham Co-op. We welcome a diversity of voices and viewpoints. Given the public nature of the physical Poem Booth, we select poems to install that are appropriate for a broad reading audience including children. Please take a look at our blog for examples of poems that have been selected in the past.
The Spring Installation will be a tribute to George Drake. We are now accepting poems about or inspired by George Drake or Big Rock Sculpture garden. Submissions are due Feb. 15, 2021
Poem Submission Guidelines Please note: We will only consider poems that are submitted according to these guidelines.
Deadline: For consideration, submit one to three poems by midnight on February 15, May 15, August 15. Poems are posted on a quarterly basis in March, June, September, and December in time for the art walk. Note: We are currently accepting submissions, but the installation is on hold until there there is a larger downtown presence.
Submit poems to[email protected] Poem Format:one page maximum per poem, 12 point font, sent as a doc, docx, or Note attachment via email.
Previously published poems accepted as long at the poet holds the rights. Please do not write your name or other recognizable information on your attached poem. Because we read poems anonymously, please do not submit your poems to individual jury members. Please use our [email protected] address. Winner receives a $25 gift card to the Community Food Co-op, and opportunity to read at installation ceremony at poem booth. We also publish winning poems on our blog. Finalist poems will be announced on our blog. Though we are no longer publishing them, we are happy to link to them if they are published elsewhere. Poets are invited to read their finalist poems at the installation ceremony, which takes place during the first Friday art walk.
The winning poem will be announced by the 1st of the month for which the poem is submitted.
